Aim, structure and tasks of the organization

The Deutsche Rentenversicherung Bund was founded on 1 October 2005 as a result of the organizational reform of the German statutory pension insurance. Functionally, it is a merger between the former VDR (Federation of German Pension Insurance Institutes) and the former BfA (Federal Insurance Institute for Salaried Employees). Its main tasks are therefore essentially of a twofold: 1. Provision of the wide-range of services as Germany´s largest pension insurance institute (calculation and paying-out of pensions, provision of rehabilitation measures etc). 2. Central decision-taking and advisory body for issues of fundamental importance for the German statutory pension insurance (e.g. legal, administrative and political questions, pension reform, research), statistical reporting and data monitoring.
